In Sofía Guilarte Reyes's chords, music becomes a journey of intertwined emotions, where rock and flamenco converge in a vibrant dance of passion and expression. Her beginnings as a guitarist and vocalist in the band Okulary to the founding of El Mundo de Sofía, this talented Cuban musician has carved out a unique path in the music scene. Her profound lyrics and powerful melodies have resonated on iconic stages like Maxim Rock and Casa de la Amistad, solidifying her place as an innovative figure in the Cuban music landscape.

Sofía, how did your journey in music begin and what has this trajectory meant to you?

Since the sunsets of adolescence, the guitar became my silent accomplice as I explored chords that narrated my early stories. It was in Okulary where notes melded with my voice, awakening a desire to explore new sounds and blend musical traditions that challenged conventions.

What drove you to take on the role of singer as well as guitarist in Okulary?

Destiny led me to the forefront of the stage, where I discovered that words could soar further when accompanied by my voice. Each song became an intimate conversation with the audience, a melody we shared in a universal language.

Who have been your deepest inspirations on this musical journey?

My inspirations are born from the soul of every alley in Havana, where the sound of everyday life intertwines with echoes of the masters of Cuban music. In every chord, I seek to honor their legacy and take it beyond borders.

What is your creative process like when composing new songs?

My songs arise from the echo of the city, from the beat of my heart finding its rhythm in each melody. From the whisper of the wind on the Malecón to the stories woven on every corner, I find inspiration in life itself that breathes around me.

"If I Had..." was a milestone in your career. What personal story inspired this song?

"If I Had..." emerged from the nostalgia of a love that never was, from verses lost in time but found their home in music. It's the echo of a heart that continues to beat in every chord, a melody that became the bridge between what was and what could have been.

What message do you wish to convey to your followers through your music?

In every song and every note, I want to share the truth of the human experience, the passion that unites us, and the emotions that make us vulnerable. In a world where words fade, music endures as a beacon of hope and connection.

How do you believe your music has evolved over the years?

My music has been a journey of self-discovery and exploration, where each song is a chapter in the book of my life. From Okulary's first chords to the rock and flamenco fusions in El Mundo de Sofía, each step has been a leap into the unknown, towards new horizons that challenge and enrich my art.

What is your favorite song to perform live and why?

Every song is a universe in itself, a reflection of an emotion that finds its home on stage. "La Tempestad" feat. Reynier Mariño is an example of how collaboration can elevate music to new heights, merging sounds and experiences into a symphony that transcends time and space.

Which artists would you like to collaborate with in the future and why?

I would love to collaborate with artists who challenge conventions and explore new musical frontiers. From Björk to local musicians who carry the rhythm of the island in their veins, each collaboration is an opportunity to learn and grow, to create something that transcends genre and culture.

How do you envision the future of El Mundo de Sofía?

El Mundo de Sofía will continue to be a journey of discovery and creation, where music becomes a bridge between past, present, and future. We will continue to explore new sounds and blend musical traditions to create a unique experience that resonates in every heart that listens to us.

What advice would you give to young musicians starting their careers?

Never stop exploring, learning, and dreaming in chords. Music is an endless journey of self-discovery and expression, where each note tells a story, and each song finds its echo in the listener's soul.
