International Writers Workshop Opens its European Branch

Bonn, Germany, August 20, 2024 – With the conviction that words can transform the world, and that literature is the supreme art of humanity, the prestigious International Writers Workshop (TIE) has taken a significant step by expanding its presence into the heart of Europe. Just five months after its creation in Miami, United States, under the visionary guidance of playwright Yoshvani Medina, TIE has established its new headquarters in the city of Bonn, Germany. This new space, masterfully directed by the distinguished Venezuelan author and literary coach Susi Velasco, stands as a beacon of creativity for all those writers who, from Europe, wish to project their voices on the international stage.

TIE presents itself as a cradle of dreams and a bridge connecting European pens with the U.S. market, propelling Spanish-speaking talent and defending the interests of writers who, with passion and authenticity, write in Spanish. In collaboration with the Milibrohispano Foundation, a renowned cultural institution based in the United States, this workshop not only offers a space for creation but also unwavering support for those seeking to carve out a place in the competitive world of literature.

Fiction in the Service of the Big Screen

TIE’s ambition knows no bounds. With a determined focus on the market of the world’s most influential streaming platforms –Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Max, Hulu, Apple TV, Movistar+, Sky Showtime, among others– the workshop has embarked on a crusade to bring original Spanish-language stories to global screens. To achieve this, it offers an intensive training program for writers of all levels, from beginners to the most experienced, as long as they have powerful stories to tell and hold the copyright to their works, regardless of whether they are already published on platforms like Amazon.

TIE provides its participants with a team of elite professionals: a Netflix-certified entertainment lawyer, a filming crew with experience in North American television, and a cast of actors with careers in Hollywood and European cinema. These are the essential tools the industry requires to turn a series into a resounding success.

A Path to Success

Each module of the workshop lasts six months, during which writers will develop the first season of their series, consisting of six episodes, each 48 to 60 minutes long. Those series that achieve excellence and are ready to conquer the market will be presented to TIE's entertainment lawyer, who will ensure the executive production of the selected ones.

TIE offers its sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Germany time, at a monthly cost of 299 euros. For those who wish to explore this opportunity, a free and informative master class will take place on Sunday, September 1 at 2 p.m., Germany time, followed by the official start of courses on Monday, September 2.

A Growing International Community

Today, the International Writers Workshop hosts forty authors from twelve countries, seven of whom have already been selected for the Official Selection of the TV Azteca 2024 Contest, which offers a $20,000 prize for the best first episode of an unpublished series. These authors, along with all TIE participants, represent the voice of more than 300 million Spanish speakers, a market that, with 30% of its users subscribed to streaming platforms, is eager for new stories.
